gdb 6.6 sparc-rtems weirdness

$ /opt/rtems-4.8/bin/sparc-rtems4.8-gdb

This GDB was configured as "--host=i686-redhat-linux-gnu 
--target=sparc-rtems4.8".
(gdb) tar sim
unknown option -E
open of big failed
Connected to the simulator.


Notice the errors after the tar sim command.  These do not happen
with the 4.7 gdb 6.5 and I don't remember them with the 4.8 gdb 6.5
which was very likely the same code base anyway.

Any ideas?
