Rtems provided by gaisler and modifications ?

Hi everyone, 
 
Does someone knows how different is the rtems provided by gaisler for
leon3 boards on their website (4.7.99.2) is really different than the
one that can be obtained via rpms ? 
 
In particular, I have some troubles with the
rtems_bsdnet_initialize_network function that runs forever when loaded
with the simulator tsim-leon3 (I hope that my problem is not due to the
tsim)
But, I can't say more since I have precompiled cpukit and I can't even
put some printf (or printk ? btw, what is printk?) in the differents
functions to see what kind of functions are called. 
 
I've read a few topics on similar problems on this mailing list, and I
already tried to "pack" structures in ip_var.h.
I used the bsp provided by gaisler for leon3. 
 
And now I'm out of ideas ...
