backspace in termios

hi,
i'm doing a dialog based application over the console. so the user write a command and press enter and i receive this command with scanf parse it and execute the command and return the answer with printf. this is all working. however the user expect that when he press backspace the last character is deleted this is not the case. i though that this is handeled in termios isn't it? if not how can i fix that?
 
ps. i'm using minicom under linux as a console program.
