filerdback (file read-back) sample app

Has anyone tried to run this "filerdback" sample app. I get an error (-1 
returned) when tries to write to a file. Should this work? I enabled 
POSIX and it made no difference (wasn't sure if it is needed).  Here's 
what I see:
