No idea what makes you say this. CentOS5's host compiler is amongst the 
most stable and reliable GCC's  around.

Well, ... in most cases, the origin of such issues sits between keyboard 
and CRT (rsp. LCD). Building cross-compilers isn't trivial and is even 
less trival on aging OSes.
