Hi

The RTEMS Project has previously participated in the Google Code-In program
for
high school students. We have gotten good work done. However, this program
requires
more community involvement than GSoC. GSoC is a handful of college students
doing large projects. GCI is a lot of high school students doing small (1-2
day) tasks.
These are tasks which anyone using RTEMS could guide and evaluate.

The past few years we have declined to participate because we could not
get enough users committed. This resulted in a burden on a handful of
people like Gedare, Jennifer, Chris, and myself.

This is a good program but unless a significant number of folks using
RTEMS step up, we will be pragmatic and decline again.

Thanks.

9th consecutive year of our contest for pre-university students ages
13-17. Please be aware, GCI will start about a month earlier this year than
in previous years - the contest starts for students October 23rd!

The GCI timeline, FAQs, and flyers have been updated on the contest site
<http://g.co/gci>. Rules are coming soon.

Students -- The contest begins for you on Tuesday, October 23rd! Yes, we’re
starting a month earlier this year! You will be able to register for the
contest starting October 23rd at 16:00 UTC at g.co/gci.

Organizations -- If you would like to apply for the 2018 program please
start thinking about the tasks you would like students to work on and reach
out to your community members to ask if they would like to be mentors for
the program. Organization applications open for GCI next week on Thursday,
September 6th, and close less than 2 weeks later on Monday, September 17th.
We will announce organizations on Tuesday, September 18th giving orgs 5
weeks to create their tasks before the contest begins on October 23rd.

We are looking to continue the growth of this program and reach a record
number of teenagers this year! Read more on today’s blog post
