We have the following i386 BSPs:

pc386
pc486
pc586
pc586-sse
pc686
pcp4

I think we should consolidate this. Would it make sense to reduce this 
to one variant which is built with GCC default options?

The fix for this is removing support for obsolete hardware from my point 
of view.
