Ehm, have you tried to connect you favorite editor to let say something
like Rational Rose? If not, then in Eclipse you will already found it. :-)
BTW: I'm also using emacs + xterm(s) for development, but I'm also able to
perfectly understand those calls for IDE, heck QNX just contributed a lot
of code to Eclipse CDT, probably they have some reason to invest their
money to it...
