You were right. I tried what Angelo suggested - using arp -a. The two boards did have the same ethernet address and after changing the ethernet address of one of the boards, I got a successful connection. Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions.

The command arp -a will tell us all about the device. I had a similar
problem and it was with the Mac address on the card. arp -a will tell us all
